ES Myrdal FAO 180
This high-yielding FAO 180 variety is a very large, robust plant producing long, well-filled cobs with early starch lay-down and strong cob ripeness for early harvest. Proven across three years of trials and outstanding in recent years with fresh yields over 50 t/ha, it performs consistently on favourable and medium/bodied soils, offering good disease resistance, excellent digestibility and a long harvest window.
Cob Ripeness
Large well filled determinate cobs with early dent grain and good maturity, similar to Ambition. Cob ripening days after Lovely + 9
Maturity Group
FAO 180. ES Myrdal is a maturity class 8 variety for the main bulk of maize growers. Its early cob ripeness allows high yields of forage to be achieved even in areas with less heat units.
Quality & Digestibility
Very high digestibility and cell wall digestibility 56.4% combine with good starch to produce superb silage. A quality variety producing quality silage.
Yield
Sow at 40,000 to 45,000 seeds per acre (105,000 - 111,000 per ha.) to maximise output. Very high yields of forage in NIAB trials. Excellent combination of cob and plant yield to form quality forage in the clamp.
When to sow
Sow April to May
